A significant law enforcement response unfolded in Coney Island, Brooklyn, following a fatal shooting that prompted an active investigation by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
According to police, officers responded to reports of gunfire near West 28th Street and Surf Avenue at approximately 9:20 a.m. Upon arrival, first responders located a 24-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the face and chest.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts. Authorities have identified the victim as Truron Roach-Martin, a Brooklyn resident and local drill rapper known professionally as Briscoe Bands.
Following the shooting, a large contingent of NYPD officers secured the area with crime scene tape while detectives and forensic investigators collected evidence. Witnesses reported seeing numerous emergency vehicles in the neighborhood as investigators canvassed for surveillance footage and interviewed potential witnesses.
Officials said the suspected shooter fled the area immediately after the incident. As of the latest update, no arrests have been announced, and investigators have not publicly identified a suspect.
